The hair diaries: Why I went for the chop

As you know, my hair can be a bit of a struggle. Actually, it can be a NIGHTMARE. So, I've decided to do something pretty drastic...

...I'VE CHOPPED OFF ALL OF MY HAIR!!! I had wanted to do it for a long time, but I never had the courage until, well, two days ago.

I can't tell you how pleased I am. My hair has never felt so bouncy and full of life! When I stepped out of the salon, I felt like I was in a L'Oréal advert, because I'm worth it, of course 😉. So after eyeing up "long curly bob hairstyles" on Google I thought, sod it, I'm doing it! And I have!

I had about 5 inches taken off, and some long layers put through to give my hair some shape and bring out my curls. I'll admit, when Arnold was cutting my hair (and I saw how much of it was on the floor) I was very nervous that I wouldn't like the outcome, or that it wouldn't suit me. But when I saw the finished result, all I could think of was that I wished I had done it sooner! Curly hair is very hard to keep tangle and frizz-free when it is long. For some reason people seem to assume that curly hair is easier to manage. NOT TRUE AT ALL!

I remember having a conversation with my mum when I was deciding whether to go for the chop or not, and she was actually the one that convinced me to do it! She used to be a hairdresser herself, many moons ago, so I valued her opinion more than anyone's. Her advice? If you have curly hair and you're going out of your mind to try and maintain it, then consider cutting it shorter. You'll soon find that your curls are more defined, your hair is less frizzy (which is a God send for me) and it won't get tangled as easily.

This was a huge change for me as I'm not really much of a risk taker.
But I thought, "Heleayner, you're young, you only live once babes, cut your hair, it grows". In the words of Coco Chanel "A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life" - Coco spoke, and I certainly listened.

Now, I know that cutting your hair can be very personal for some women. Whether you have just been through a break-up, got that promotion you have been dreaming of at work, or simply fancied a change, like I did! And I have to say, I feel much more sophisticated, sexier, and a hell of a lot sassier!

I have also begun to switch up my style a bit. What's a girl to do? When cut your hair you gotta change your wardrobe. Every woman knows this. So, I've been wearing slightly more plunging necklines that show off my collar bones a little more (cheeky). I've also tweaked my makeup routine, wearing bolder lipstick shades to bring out my features.

Looking back, I suppose cutting my hair was a way of me letting go of certain things that had bothered me in the past. In recent months, I have learnt to be more accepting and open to new things. In a way I literally cut off the old to start the new.

So here's to the new Heleayner🥂. She's fearless, ambitious, and is ready to take on the world (once she has got her degree).

Well that all got a bit deep didn't it?!

I promise my next post won't be as emotional...perhaps I'll do a post about about my Spring makeup routine?

 Love, Heleayner
